Happy New Year from the Plumbing Paramedics! - Plumbing Paramedics - Expert Plumbers Calgary

There’s nothing like the New Year to get Calgarians motivated to think of new goals and habits they want to make (or break themselves of!). At the Plumbing Paramedics, we definitely try to take January as an opportunity to reflect on how the previous year went and what changes we want to make in the coming months. So if you’re still looking for some ideas for New Year resolutions, here are just a few to get you started!

Use Less Water!

The average Calgarian uses 7000L of water every month. If that seems like a lot, it is. The World Health Organization estimates that the average person only requires about 20L a day to meet their basic needs. That’s about 10x less than you likely use on a daily basis. The worst water hogs are old toilets, showers (or baths), and the laundry machine. Try to make sure every laundry load counts, and maybe consider newer, high efficiency appliances, toilets, and shower heads to help reduce water usage.

Put that Composter to Work.

No one likes a clogged drain, but kitchen sinks are notorious for getting plugged. To help keep everything running smoothly, try to build a habit of scraping plates and cookware into your composter. Sauces, greases, and chunks of food should all be scraped away before the dishes are washed.

Catch Hair.

Another drain that always seems to clog up is the bath or shower. A hair snare can help capture the tangle before it can make a nest in your drain. You’ll have to comb the hair from the snare before every shower, but that’s less gross than pulling a giant hairball from the drain that’s been there for months.

Change Your Furnace Filter.

If you don’t already change your furnace filter regularly, this might be the most important new habit you can form. Your furnace filter keeps the air your family breathes clean of dust, allergens, and other detritus. But a clogged filter makes your furnace work overtime as it tries to force air through a thick blanket of lint. This inefficiency costs you on your energy bill and reduces the lifespan of your furnace, so be sure to look up the manufacturer’s recommendation for your furnace, and put a notification into your phone.

The team at the Plumbing Paramedics wants to wish you a happy New Year. Thanks to you and all of our wonderful customers, 2018 was an amazing year. We look forward to making 2019 even better! Contact our team for any and all of your plumbing and furnace needs. It’s our privilege to serve you!
