Don’t wait for your bathtub drain to clog, your dishwasher to stop mid-cycle or your toilet to overflow! Learn to recognize the indications that you need to have your drains professionally cleaned. The following are the warning signs that it’s time to call the plumber and make an appointment for drain cleaning services.

  • Slow drains: If one or more of your drains is not emptying efficiently you likely have a build-up of hair, grease and/or soap in your pipes. It won’t “just get better!” Make professional drain cleaning a priority.
  • Unpleasant odours: If strong gas or waste-like odours are coming from your drains, sewer gases or waste may be clogging your pipes. Call your local plumber.
  • Recurring clogs: If you repeatedly unclog your toilet, shower or sink and your efforts don’t bring lasting results, call a professional to tackle the issue.
  • Strange sounds: If you hear gurgling or bubbling sounds when you flush the toilet or drain the sink, a blockage is causing water to be forced through a small space. Call your plumber before the blockage leads to a cracked or broken pipe.
  • More than one clogged drain is a sign of a big problem such as a main sewer clog. Contact your local plumber immediately.
  • Standing water in your shower, washing machine or sink indicates that you have a serious plumbing problem.
  • Water back up: If water returns after initially draining or backs up into a nearby sink or tub when you flush your toilet or run the dishwasher or washing machine, your pipes need cleaning!
  • Fruit Flies: If you notice a sudden increase in fruit flies in your home, you may have food waste building up in your drains. Call for pipe cleaning.
  • Overflowing Toilet: When your drains are clogged and your toilet starts overflowing, call for pipe cleaning services.

Many DIY methods of cleaning pipes work for small clogs. If you clear a clog and it provides short term or inadequate results, call the professionals. If you have slow drainage, unpleasant odours, strange sounds in your pipes, standing water, water backup and/or fruit flies, it’s time to consult with your plumber. They can determine if you have a simple blockage, a cracked or a collapsed pipe. When a plumber solves the problem your drain issues will be gone for good!
