With Easter come and past and summer just around the corner, may Calgary families are breaking out the dust buster and scrubbing every nook and cranny. Nothing makes a house feel fresh and spring-like quite like throwing the windows open wide and shooing all the winter dust and stale air outdoors. While you’re busy wiping, sweeping, and sanitizing every surface in sight, here are a few more chores to add to your spring cleaning list!

Furnace Inspection.

An annual furnace inspection is a mandatory stipulation of most manufacturer warranties If a little problem can be caught early, it can usually be repaired for much less than if the entire furnace fails because issues are allowed to build up. In general, we recommend that Calgarians have their furnace inspected each spring. It just worked hard all winter, so any problems should be readily apparent. Beyond that, if winter sneaks up on us fast in September, you’ll already know your furnace is in great condition and ready to go.

Clear Out Eavestroughs.

Many Calgarians have learned the hard way how truly catastrophic a flooded home can be. While the scale between the damage caused by the Great Flood and conventional summer rains may differ by magnitudes, it’s a safe bet to assume most Calgarians would prefer to avoid any amount of flooding. One of your home’s most important defences for preventing a flooded basement are your eavestroughs, but they can’t do their job when clogged with old leaves and sticks. Instead, the water floods over the side of the gutter and pools right next to your house exactly where you don’t want it. Ensuring gutters are cleared every spring will help prevent a basement flood.

Hot Water Maintenance.

Hot water tank or tankless water heating solution? Either way, you’ll need some annual maintenance!

A hot water tank collects sediment throughout the year. This reduces how much hot water is available for use, and it contributes to harder water that doesn’t react with soap very well. An annual inspection and cleaning will help to ensure your tank lasts for years.

As for tankless water heaters, like your furnace, it’s a good idea to have these appliances inspected every year. The electric or gas components should be inspected to prevent problems, and we’ll also ensure that hard water isn’t causing any issues. If we notice unnecessary wear and tear from scale buildup, we’ll recommend a water softener that will help keep your heater and pipes running smoothly.

Spring is a great time to consider all the nitty gritty chores that we tend to neglect throughout the year. But as you air out the mattresses and vacuum all the way under the coach, don’t forget about your plumbing. It needs some TLC too, and our friendly Calgary plumbers are here to help with anything you need! Give us a call at (403) 452-2911 or book an appointment online!
